Raychem RPG has signed a pact with Hexaformer AB of Sweden to manufacture its
patented brand of transformers in India. Raychem, a 50:50 JV between the RPG
Group and Tyco Electronics of the US, has earmarked about Rs 120 crore for
expanding its transformer business.
As part of the agreement, Raychem is likely to be manufacturing and marketing
the Hexaformer brand of oil-type transformers in India through a technology
transfer mechanism. The deal gives the distribution rights to Raychem for the
European market as well.
Raychem is likely to be manufacturing about 5,000 units of Hexaformer
transformers at its two plants in Pune (Maharashtra) and Himachal Pradesh and
later ramp it up to about 40,000 units per annum by 2015. The production of
Hexaformer transformers is likely to commence by October 2010.
