Reliance Industries (Mukesh Ambani),
on 17 January 2006, won a land deal from MMRDA for development of a
international convention centre at the Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai.
Reliance quoted Rs.1,104 crore for the
7.5 ha plot beating Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Enterprises (Rs.1,011 crore), Gammon
India (Rs.1,011 crore), DLF Group (Rs.1,050 crore) and Emmar MGF (Rs.911 crore.)
According to the project terms,
Reliance Industries would develop an international convention and exhibition
centre with a built-up area of at least 65,000 sq.m. The total geographical area
earmarked for the C&EC is 5.5 ha. The land will be available on lease for a
80-year period. The developer will construct the centre at his own risk and
costs. The developer will have the right to manage, maintain, run and earn from
the centre.
The deal also provides for 2.2 ha of
land for a commercial complex. The basic terms are same as that of the E&EC
except that the commercial complex will have to be commissioned at least four
years after the commissioning of the E&EC. The CC will have a built-up area not
exceeding 5,000 sq.m.
On 11 November 2005, MMRDA had invited
request for proposal for grant of lease of land for developing, operating and
maintaining convention and exhibition center, developing commercial complex at

The proposed convention and exhibition
center will include
- Five exhibition halls having an
area of 5,000 sq. metre each
- Convention Auditorium
- Conference halls, board rooms,
reception etc
- Specialty areas-media,
administration, secretarial support, circulation etc
- Shops and offices
- Public areas
- Car Parking facility
The commercial complex coming up in an
area of not more than 50,000 sq. metres will have a multiplex, shopping malls,
offices & shops, entertainment center, hotel & restaurants.
