Reliance Industries, under the leadership of Mukesh Ambani, is set to build the world’s largest data centre by capacity in Jamnagar, Gujarat, aiming for a three-gigawatt capacity.
This venture comes in response to the growing demand for AI services globally and will incorporate Nvidia Corp’s advanced AI semiconductors. Once operational, it will surpass current data centres, which have capacities under one gigawatt.
The initiative aligns Reliance with major global tech companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet, which are investing heavily in AI-enabled data infrastructure.
The Jamnagar facility will integrate renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, and green hydrogen, from Reliance's green energy complex. However, experts note that ensuring a consistent power supply will require supplementary resources like large-scale batteries and fossil fuels. This data centre will triple India’s current data centre capacity, which stands at under one gigawatt, marking a major leap in the country’s AI infrastructure.
