Rolls-Royce is considering expanding its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations in India to support both civil and defence sectors.
The company is exploring partnerships to establish a dedicated MRO facility for the AE2100 engine, which powers the Lockheed Martin C-130J aircraft. Sashi Mukundan, Executive Vice President of RollsRoyce India, mentioned that such a facility would enhance fleet readiness, reduce turnaround time, and support self-reliant sustainment capabilities for the Indian Air Force. Currently, Rolls-Royce operates an MRO facility in Pune, servicing marine engines and Arjun Main Battle Tank engines. The company aims to make India a key location, aligning with the growing India-UK partnership.
Rolls-Royce also plans to expand its manufacturing footprint in India, including growing existing joint ventures and increasing supply chain partnerships. Notably, it has partnered with Bharat Forge to manufacture fan blades for its Pearl 700 and Pearl 10X engines.
