Chief Minister MK Stalin-led DMK government has announced that global aerospace and defence major Rolls-Royce has expressed strong interest in expanding operations in Tamil Nadu.
The UK-headquartered company plans to set up a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility, a research and training centre, and significantly expand its IAMPL joint venture in Hosur. The state industries department highlighted, “With Tamil Nadu being home to one of India’s two Defence Industrial Corridors, this engagement with Rolls-Royce underscores the state’s potential as a hub for advanced aerospace manufacturing.”
Rolls-Royce, a leader in high-end jet engines for both civilian and military use, is expected to further strengthen the state’s position in the global aerospace supply chain. The announcement comes during CM Stalin’s ongoing TN Rising European tour, which has resulted in several MoUs across defence, aerospace, renewable energy, textiles, and design technology.
Lloyd’s List Intelligence will expand its Global Capability Centre in Chennai. Wilson Power & Distribution will invest Rs 300 crore in a transformer plant creating 543 work opportunities, while Britannia RFID Technologies will invest Rs 520 crore in RFID tag units at Tiruppur and Namakkal, generating employment for 550 people.
