The Ministry of Railways has allocated Rs 100 crore for the Ghatkesar-Yadagirigutta MMTS extension project in Telangana for the financial year 2025–26. This long-pending 33-km multi-modal transport system (MMTS) extension was sanctioned in 2016 but faced delays due to funding issues.
Originally a cost-sharing project between the Railways and the Telangana government, the Union government has now decided to fully fund the extension. Bhongir Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Railways and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the financial backing. The MP had earlier raised the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha on April 3.
The Rs 100-cr allocation is subject to the progress of the work and demand from the executing agency. Land acquisition for the extension is underway, and MP Reddy assured he will coordinate with agencies to expedite the process.
