Two more Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs)
are coming up at a cost of Rs 109.5 million in addition to already taken up
three such projects costing to Rs 82.7 million to plug the contamination of
water and its flow into the Dal Lake.
This was stated by the Minister for
Housing and Urban Development Qazi Mohammad Afzal while visiting to STPs of
Hazratbal, Habak and Lam Brain.
The Minister said that upcoming STPs
would help to contain the contamination of Dal by proper treatment of the
sewerage. The STPs on completion would provide sewerage treatment facility to
the waste of 1,85,000 population around the Dal.
In addition, Rs.10 million will be
spent for construction of a modern dumping site for the sludge coming out of
sewerage treatment plants which would be used as a manure for agriculture
purposes.
