Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has successfully commissioned a five-MW floating solar power plant at its Bhilai Steel Plant, marking a significant step in the company’s renewable energy journey.
This new facility is designed to strengthen SAIL’s clean energy portfolio and reduce the carbon footprint of its steel manufacturing operations. The floating solar panels are strategically placed on water bodies within the plant premises, maximising land use and boosting energy efficiency. Company officials highlighted that the project aligns with India’s national clean energy goals and forms part of SAIL's long-term strategy to incorporate renewable energy into its core operations. It is expected to reduce dependence on conventional power sources and contribute to cost optimization in the long run.
Through this development, SAIL demonstrates its commitment to sustainable growth, environmental responsibility, and aligning with global green manufacturing practices.
