SAIL has drawn a plan to expand its annual production capacity in a phased
manner to 26 million tonne by 2014.
Currently, the company produces about 13.82 million tpa of hot metal. In
Phase I of expansion it will be taken up to 23.46 million tpa by end-2012, and
in Phase II, the capacity will be increased further to 26.18 million tpa.
The Phase II of expansion programme is likely to cost about Rs 10,000 crore.
At present, SAIL is undertaking a Rs 70,000-crore expansion programme to
raise its annual production capacity to about 23 million tonne.
