French consulting firm, SYSTRA MVA Consulting India which was entrusted to conduct the feasibility study of the proposed metro rail project in Coimbatore has submitted its report to Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL).
The report will be sent to the Tamil Nadu government after review by the CMRL. Once the state cabinet gives its approval for the study, a detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared as well as the financial outlay.
As per the feasibility study report, the Coimbatore Metro Rail project will be implemented in four corridors with a total distance of 136 km. The details of corridors are- Corridor-I will start from Ukkadam and end at Kaniyur covering 26 km, Corridor-II will cover 24 km from Ukkadam to Pilichi near Karamadai on Mettupalayam Road.
The Corridor-III will cover 42 km from Thanneerpandal on Thadagam Road to Karanampettai on Trichy Road, and Corridor-IV will be 44 km from Karunya Nagar to Ganeshapuram.
Based on the details provided by the district administration and the corporation, the selected firm will prepare the detailed project report (DPR). In the DPR, the consulting firm will include all possible routes of the Coimbatore metro rail project including the estimated budget, alignment, number and names of stations, elevated or underground corridors and other requirements to build the metro rail system.
