Schaeffler India has inaugurated its fifth manufacturing facility in Shoolagiri, Tamil Nadu, marking a major step in its expansion and localisation strategy in India.
The 16,500 sq. mtrs. facility is dedicated to powertrain and chassis components, including advanced hybrid and electrified technologies, and aligns with the company’s commitment to India’s growing automotive sector and the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The inauguration was attended by key Schaeffler leaders including Georg F W Schaeffler, Eranti Sumithasri, Matthias Zink, and Dharmesh Arora.
The Shoolagiri plant plays a critical role in increasing production capacity for transmission components and supporting the company’s global growth goals. From 2022 to 2024, Schaeffler India invested Rs 1,700 crore - up from an initial Rs 1,500 crore commitment, to expand its local capabilities. The company also strengthened its presence in the digital automotive aftermarket with the acquisition of Koovers in 2023.
Aligned with the group’s sustainability goals, the Shoolagiri facility is designed under a holistic sustainability framework, supporting energy-efficient operations while enabling India’s transition to e-mobility and next-generation mobility solutions.
