J Radhakrishnan, Chairman and MD of Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation, on 05 October, 2025 conducted an inspection in Muppandal near Aralvaimozhi to assess sites for new windmill and solar power installations.

Tamil Nadu currently operates 20 windmills in the area with a combined capacity of 200 KW. Officials from the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation (TNGECL) were directed to upgrade these to higher-capacity units. Additionally, a solar power plant with a proposed three MW capacity is under consideration. To handle the increased energy generation, a new Rs 230 crore substation and two 750 KW windmills have received approval.

The Chairman also addressed concerns regarding road connectivity to the Kodhayar power plant, where 35 employees currently travel through a forest route from Tirunelveli. The Kanniyakumari district administration has requested a direct road link, and feasibility studies are expected to follow. District Collector R Alagumeena and TNEB officials accompanied the site visit, highlighting the state’s focus on renewable energy infrastructure.
