Skoda Auto India has announced its plans of
doubling manufacturing capacity at its Aurangabad plant in Maharashtra from the
current 15,000 cars per year to 30,000 cars by the year-end.
The total investment in the Aurangabad facility
-- the company's first outside Europe -- has been $132.7 million, till date.
Skoda has also planned to begin exports to
Bangladesh and other Asian countries, from the Aurangabad plant, later in 2005.
Skoda Auto is a 100 per cent subsidiary of
Volkswagen AG of Germany and manufactures the Octavia brand of luxury
cars in India. It currently has eight models (including variants) with total
sales touching 8,000 units in 2004.
