Soma Enterprise, on 30 August 2006,
has reported that it has completed the four-laning of 'Maddur-Mysore'
State Highway project. The Rs.116.2 crore project provides a direct link
between Bangalore and Mysore.
The 52.6
km (82.5 km to 135.35km)
Bangalore-Maddur stretch had been awarded to Soma Enterprises by
Karnataka Road Development Corporation (KRDCL).
The Maddur-Mysore project was Soma
Enterprises first project in Karnataka which have been completed and handed over
to KRDCL within the stipulated time period (24 months). Work on the project had
started in May 2004.
The highway (SH-17) will enable thousands of commuters to drive at a speed of 100
kmph. To enhance durability, modified bitumen has been used in the pavement
layer, according to a company release.
Completion of the proposed project
connects important towns such as Mandya and Srirangapatna. The project involved
construction of 4 major bridges over Lokapavani, Cauvery & Paschimavahini
rivers, a 7.0m wide carriageway & 2.5m wide earthen shoulder on both sides,
23 minor bridges, straightening of 19 curves, 122 culverts, 22 bus bays, 2 truck
lay-byes.
Soma Enterprises have also commenced
work on the Bangalore-Electronic City Expressway project.
