Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has written to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, requesting a special central financial package for the expansion of Kangra airport.
The Chief Minister stated that the state government is acquiring 150 hectares of land for the Kangra airport expansion, with a compensation award of over Rs 1,900 crore ready and Rs 410 crore already disbursed. As the statutory land acquisition period ends in August 2025, the CM urged the Ministry to recommend the project to the Ministry of Finance and the Prime Minister’s Office for special assistance. He also requested a review of the techno-economic feasibility report by WAPCOS, regarding its cost estimates.
CM Sukhu proposed a tripartite agreement among the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the state, and a private partner. Additional requests include introducing special VFR operations, night landing facilities at Kangra, extended flight operation hours at Shimla, and deployment of Himachal Police at airports. He also sought operational approval for new heliports under RCS UDAN Phase-2.
