Suzuki Motor Corporation has announced a detailed 10-year powertrain strategy covering internal combustion engines, hybrids, battery electric vehicles, and alternative fuels.
On the internal combustion front, the company will refine its 1.5- litre naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines until 2025, while introducing direct-injection turbo engines and “digital hybrid” units by 2030. Post-2030, next-gen ICE platforms will integrate seamlessly with electrification and alternative fuels. In hybrids, Suzuki will expand strong hybrid systems and gradually roll out plug-in hybrids. Its “Super EneCharge” mild hybrid will continue evolving, with second-generation plug-in hybrids expected around 2030. By 2035, hybrids will integrate digital engines for optimised performance.
On the EV front, Suzuki is developing compact models for A, B, and Kei segments. Gen-2 EVs with better range and cost efficiency are slated for 2030, followed by next-gen EVs with advanced, affordable battery tech. In alternative fuels, Suzuki began E20 bioethanol-compatible engines in India this April and plans to launch flex-fuel vehicles supporting up to 85 percent ethanol within this financial year.
