Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the Centre's approval for a third electronics manufacturing cluster in Tamil Nadu, will lead to further strengthening of the state’s position in India’s electronics production ecosystem. The declaration was made during a video conference at an IIT Madras event, where the Minister emphasised the strategic importance of Tamil Nadu in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making it a leading electronics manufacturing hub.
He also added that the initiative would bring modern amenities to the region. The Centre is focusing on expanding mobile phone, laptop, and server manufacturing in the state, with several new projects underway or in planning. “Many new projects in mobile phone, laptop and server manufacturing are now getting set up in Tamil Nadu,” he noted.
Ttwo electronics clusters worth Rs 1,112 crore, including a facility by Zetwerk Electronics in Sriperumbudur near Chennai, were announced in March 2025. These clusters aim to produce electronic components for consumer durables and IT hardware for domestic and global markets.
