Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has announced that his government has identified land in Krishnagiri district to build a dedicated airport for Hosur, the fast-growing industrial hub near Bengaluru.
The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has begun the process of finalising and acquiring around 2,200–2,300 acres between Bagalur and Berigai, northeast of Hosur, for the project. Officials confirmed that a land development plan (LDP) is being prepared, after which administrative sanction and a Government Order will pave the way for land acquisition. The site was selected following an Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) survey, which found Berigai-Bagalur more suitable than Belagondapalli, where Taneja Aerospace and Aviation (TAAL) runs a private facility.
Proximity to the Bengaluru Satellite Town Ring Road and the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border was also a deciding factor. However, the project requires site clearance, a Defence Ministry nod for airspace use, and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL), which holds restrictive rights until 2033.
