The Tamil Nadu government is set to fast-track the Hosur airport project, aiming for site clearance within the next two weeks.
The airport, planned for Krishnagiri district, is set to cater to the industrial city of Hosur and nearby Bengaluru, with a projected annual capacity of three crore passengers. The state has identified approx. 2,000 acres across five villages in Hosur and Shoolagiri taluks for development. The site clearance from the Union Civil Aviation Ministry is the first of several approvals needed to move forward. In addition, the Krishnagiri district administration is preparing the Land Development Plan (LDP) for the project.
Once granted clearance, the government plans to begin land acquisition in the next four months, aiming to push ahead before the 2026 Assembly elections. The proposed location at Berigai-Bagalur is favoured due to fewer obstacles compared to other sites in the region.
