Tata Communications in collaboration with China Telecom Corporation is
planning to build a 500-km optical fibre cable network between India and China
by December 2010. However, financial details of the India-China Terrestrial
Cable project have not been disclosed.
The India-China route is expected to be a key route providing much-needed
diversity from the subsea cable systems and to avoid straits of Malacca and
earthquake prone zones around Taiwan.
Also, the project is expected to provide a high-speed connectivity path
between Europe and Asia by transiting India and China.
