Tata Motors has planned to set up a
new plant for manufacturing its recently-launched mini truck "Ace".
The plant location is yet undecided.
Meanwhile, responding to a high demand
from both the domestic and international market for the product, the company is
already in the midst of doubling the manufacturing capacity of Ace to 60,000
vehicles per year at the Pune plant. The Rs.200 crore project is scheduled for
completion by June 2006. A further capacity expansion to 75,000 vehicles per
year is also on the cards.
Currently, Tata Motors has two plants
-- one each at Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) and Pune (Maharashtra).
It may be recalled that in January
2006, the company announced its plans of setting up a greenfield manufacturing
unit in West Bengal for producing heavy vehicles.
