Tata Power plans to operationalise its solar cell and module facility being set up in Tamil Nadu by December, 2023 based on close monitoring of the project timeline.
In July 2022, Tata Power had inked a pact with the Tamil Nadu government for setting up a Rs 3,000-crore facility. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) envisages the construction of a greenfield 4GW solar cell and 4GW solar module manufacturing plant in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
The construction work is underway even as the order fulfillment of equipment is completed. The module plant is expected to be ready by August-September, to ensure the roll-out of the modules starting September, 2023 onwards. Moreover, implementation of the cell production lines is at an advanced stage of completion, thereby making it possible to reach the operational go-live by December-end of 2023.
Additionally, the company's upcoming 225 MW wind and solar-based hybrid project in Karnataka is awaiting approval and clearances from the regulatory commission. The project was awarded to Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) by Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL) in December 2022.
