The bids for the project were opened on 16 September 2020. The bids for the project finalised saw Tata Projects submit a bid for Rs 861.90 crore and Larsen & Toubro quoted a bid of Rs 865 crore.
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) had put a tender out for the project which had estimated the cost to be Rs 889 crore.
The company is set to bag the contract to build India’s new Parliament building as part of the government’s Central Vista redevelopment plans. The official letter will be given out in a few days.
The officials had received three bids which were opened on 16 September 2020, but only two had completed all the requirements. Seven companies had placed technical bids for the project.
The tender is being awarded a year after the Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) announced their plan to build a new Parliament building, construct a new common central secretariat for all ministries and revamp the Central Vista running from Rashtrapati Bhawan to India Gate.
The deadline for redevelopment and construction of the new Parliament building is 2022.
As per the plan, a new triangular shaped Parliament building will be constructed while the current Parliament building will be revamped. The exterior structure of the historic building will be kept intact.
The new building will be constructed close to the current Parliament which will remain functional. The construction work on the project is expected to commence after the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament.
The new building will also accommodate more seats in both the houses along with chambers for all members. The project is a part of the Central Vista plan which is looking to redevelop the Indian Parliament and surrounding areas in Lutyens’ Delhi.
HCP Design, Planning and Management will carry out design consultancy. The project is expected to be completed in 21 months.
