The government plans to develop a 43-km-long stretch between Bhongir on NH 163 and Chityal on NH 65, which will link Warangal and Vijayawada.

This project is part of a larger initiative to widen and upgrade 100 km of roads into four lanes under the hybrid annuity model (HAM). Other planned stretches include Medchal-Shamirpet and Dundigal-Medchal, each around 10 km long. Additionally, roads like Hayathnagar-Anajpur and Hayathnagar-Taramatipet, totalling 15 km, will also be developed under HAM with a median divider in between. According to a senior official of the Roads and Buildings (R&B) department, 12,000 km of roads out of the 29,000 km in the R&B network are being developed through HAM, without imposing toll taxes on commuters.

Phase 1 of this major project focuses on widening, strengthening, and maintaining the roads, with a total of 419 roads spanning 5,824.27 km grouped into 32 packages, approved at a cost of Rs 1,140 crore. “The government pays 40 per cent of the project cost during the construction period in 10 equal installments physical progress at various stages,” an official said.
