Telangana Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has announced that the State is prioritising completion of pending irrigation projects with a focus on deadlines, accountability, and transparency.
Key among these are the Tummidihatti segment of the Pranahita-Chevella project, the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel, and restoration of the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. A final decision on Tummidihatti’s canal alignment is expected by October 22 after comparative technical and cost evaluations.
The SLBC tunnel project is scheduled for completion by December 2027, with work starting post-monsoon. IIT is likely to lead technical efforts for the restoration works in coordination with the department's Chief Design Organisation. Helicopter-borne magnetic surveys by the NGRI are awaiting DGCA clearance to map subsurface rock.
The state has also sought Central Water Commission clearance and investment approval for other major projects, including Sammakka-Sarakka and Seethamma Sagar, under the PMKSY framework.
