The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has partnered with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) for a comprehensive Bengaluru Water Resilience Project, funded with over Rs 3,500 crore from the World Bank.
Key agencies involved include BWSSB, Minor Irrigation, and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). The project aims to mitigate urban flooding through improved stormwater drainage infrastructure while enhancing overall water security via rainwater harvesting, watershed development, and natural flood mitigation strategies.
IISc will update its Urban Flood model, supported by IIT-M’s advanced technology capabilities, while WELL Labs and CSTEP will provide additional design and implementation expertise. The project also focuses on long-term climate resilience, with implementation managed by Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure (BSMILE).
