Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has issued a tender for the 10 million tonne (MT) expansion of its Gua iron ore mines, located in Jharkhand.
The work includes the enhancement of mining capacity to 9.5 million tonne per annum (MTPA), screening capacity to 12.5 MTPA, and loading capacity to 10 MTPA. The expansion will be carried out through the mine developer and operator (MDO) model. The scope of work further involves comprehensive development and operation of the mines, including overburden removal, iron ore excavation, crushing, screening, transportation, and loading of ore.
The selected MDO will be responsible for end-to-end mine management under performance-linked parameters. This expansion is part of SAIL’s broader strategy to strengthen self-sufficiency in raw material sourcing and enhance capacity utilisation across its integrated steel plants. The initiative aims to meet the growing raw material requirements of SAIL’s steel plants, particularly in eastern India.
