Tiana Power Projects, a subsidiary of the Tiana Group, has earmarked Rs
16,800 crore to set up power projects in Maharashtra. The company is likely to
begin with thermal, wind and hydro power and subsequently tap solar and geo
thermal sources for generation.
The company plans to set up a wind power plant at
Karad in Satara district with an investment of Rs 1,800 crore. The
construction for the windmills is to commence later this month and be completed
within nine months. The power plant is expected to generate about 300 MW which
will be supplied to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company.
The company's thermal power plant of 1,500 MW is likely to come up at
Anjarle in Ratnagiri district over 2,500 acre. The project entailing an
investment of Rs 6,000 crore is likely to be completed in three years depending
on government clearances. The plant will use coal which could be imported from
Indonesia as the ash percentage is about 13 per cent against 37-39 per cent from
Indian coal.
Another 2,000-MW gas based power plant is likely to be set up at
Dabhol at an investment of around Rs 9,000 crore.
