Selvi J. Jayalalitha, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, on 12 February 2012, inaugurated the Toshiba JSW plant in Manali, Chennai.
Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator’s (Toshiba JSW), a 75:25 JV between Japan based Toshiba Corporation and the JSW Group, new manufacturing facility will produce high-efficiency steam turbines and generators for supercritical thermal power plants, in generating capacities ranging from 500 MW to 1,000 MW. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 3,000 MW by March 2012. Initially, the facility will cater to the customers in India and subsequently it will export to Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Also, the JV plans to augment manufacturing capacity to 6,000 MW by FY2015.
Construction of the manufacturing facility with a floor area of around 60,000 sq mtrs, commenced in February 2010 on a 4,00,000 sq mtrs plot close to Ennore in Chennai. The plant includes a blade manufacturing shop that was completed in January 2011 and now produces specialised turbine blades.
