The Himachal Pradesh (HP) government is accelerating plans to set up two solar power projects of 400 KW each, in Pangi sub-division of Chamba district. The nodal agency for renewable energy, the Himachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (HIMURJA), has identified one hectare of land for each solar power project at Hillaur and Dharwas in Pangi valley for the project.
The construction work of both solar power projects has been expedited, which is estimated to cost approximately Rs 10 crore.
Furthermore, the HP government has made a provision in the Budget 2023-24 to set up a solar power-based ‘battery energy storage system’ (BESS) project in Pangi. The project will provide uninterrupted power supply to the people of the area, even during power breakdowns by supplying electricity from the local grid.
The state government has set a target of starting 500 MW capacity solar power projects in FY24, which is a move towards becoming a ‘Green Energy’ state by 31 March, 2026.
