Uttar Pradesh reached a major milestone on November 27, installing one GW of solar power under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
The achievement, which involves solar rooftop plants on 2,90,000 homes, has not only contributed significantly to renewable energy goals but also saved around 4,000 acres of land for other productive uses. The Centre provided a subsidy of Rs 2,000 crore, while the state government added Rs 600 crore, delivering substantial financial relief to consumers.
The scheme has also seen a dramatic increase in registered vendors—from 81 to 4,200, helping to speed up its rollout. Additionally, it has created roughly 50,000 employment opportunities, boosting the local economy.
