The Uttar Pradesh government has granted in-principal approval for the 1,200 MW pumped storage power plant project of THDC India in Robertsganj tehsil of Sonbhadra district. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 6,600 crore. The project is expected to generate electricity for six hours and 36 minutes each day.

This off-stream closed-loop pump storage project requires 300.55 hectares of land. For operation, an initial filling of the reservoir will require 15.031 million cubic meters (MCM) of water annually and 1.7112 MCM due to loss caused by evaporation. The source of water supply is the Son river.

This project marks a significant step towards enhancing the power infrastructure in the state, and reflects commitment to sustainable energy solutions, and involvement of THDC India would ensure successful execution and operation of this project.
