On 29 December, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a Rs 111-crore permanent building for the Guwahati Police Commissionerate and a new city surveillance system with 2,000 CCTV cameras.
The 10-storey building, located in Khanapara, will accommodate all branches of Guwahati Police, providing space for 400 officers, a library, and an archive. The building also includes eco-friendly features like rainwater harvesting, water treatment, and solar panels. The surveillance system, developed at Rs 181 crore, has an Integrated Command and Control Centre to boost city security.The project, which began in 2023, aims to improve safety, security, and sustainability.
Minister Amit Shah also launched 39 mobile forensic vans for the Assam Police. This marks a significant upgrade in the city's policing infrastructure.
