The Uttar Pradesh Government on 20 April 2010 gave its approval for setting
up seven new thermal power plants in the state.
The new plants are likely to entail a total investment of Rs 25,000 crore.
As per sources, each of these plants are coming up in the private sector and
will be set up through the MoU route. Under the arrangement, the state
government is expected to provide land and water for setting up and running the
plant.
Five of the proposed plants are to be set up by Bajaj Hindustan (BHL) of 90
MW capacity each (earlier of 80 MW each). These are to come up in
Pilibhit,
Lakhimpur-Kheri, Shahjahanpur, Gonda and
Utraula.
Bajaj Hindustan also given clearance to set up a 1,980 MW plant in Lalitpur,
while Lanco Infratech received approval to set up a 1,320 MW thermal power
station in Fatehpur.
Addendum:
Bajaj Hindustan signed an MoU with the Uttar Pradesh Government for setting
up coal based power plants of 90 MW capacity each in Pilibhit, Lakhimpur-Kheri,
Shahjahanpur, Gonda and Utraula.
The above projects are proposed to be undertaken either directly and/or
through a SPV being subsidiary/affiliate company of BHL/consortium, as the case
may be, is obligated to hold a minimum of 26 per cent equity.
