The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) plans to establish an Urban Habitat Centre (UHC) in Madhurawada, similar to New Delhi's India Habitat Centre, under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The project, estimated at Rs 450-500 crore, will be developed on 8.82 acres of VMRDA-owned land along Law College Road near National Highway-16. The Request for Proposal (RfP) is expected to be floated by the end of January or early February.
The UHC aims to address the growing demands of the city’s expanding IT sector and developments in Madhurawada and Rushikonda, including gated communities, high-end housing, and upcoming IT projects. The area already hosts Infosys, while TCS and Google are expected to establish operations nearby. Additionally, the Adani data center and the Bhogapuram International Airport are key infrastructural developments in the vicinity.
Designed as a modern, multipurpose urban hub, the UHC aims to integrate cultural, social, and economic activities while fostering community engagement and regional growth. Key features include corporate office spaces for startups, a business centre for meetings, a clubhouse for corporate and government executives, a star hotel, and diverse dining options. The UHC will also generate revenue through office rentals, trade fairs, and cultural exhibitions, offering creative and commercial spaces.
The initiative received backing from AP Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director Amrapali Kata and is expected to be presented to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his visit to inaugurate other projects.
