Videocon International plans to set up
three new manufacturing facilities at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh, Mohali in
Punjab and Hazaribagh in Jharkhand with an investment of Rs.450 crore.
The Hyderabad and Mohali plants will entail an
investment of Rs.400 crore, funded mostly through internal accruals. These plants,
which will become operational by 2002, will manufacture refrigerators, washing
machines and televisions.
Land for the Hyderabad facility has already been
identified and the Bhumi Puja will be
conducted by the State Chief Minister, Mr N Chandrababu Naidu on 30 July 2001. This
facility will have a capacity to manufacture 10 lakh computer monitors, five
lakh CTVs and two lakh refrigerators and washing machines.
The other new unit at Hazaribagh in Jharkhand will be a smaller one with a
capacity to manufacture 5,000 colour televisions with an investment of Rs.50
crore.
Presently, the company has five manufacturing plants
at Aurangabad
in Maharashtra, Attibele near Bangalore in Karnataka, Salt Lake in Kolkata in
West Bengal, Hosur in Tamil Nadu, and one in Gujarat.
