Apple iPhone supplier Wistron's board has approved an initial investment of USD 20 million in its subsidiary, ICT Service Management Solutions (India) through SMS InfoComm (Singapore), a fully-owned subsidiary of the company. It had previously approved a total investment of USD 40 million for setting up the after-sales service production line.
The move will lay the foundation to support its upcoming laptop manufacturing plant in India. ICT’s new production facility will be to provide warranty repair services, managing inventory, and logistics solutions for Wistron’s laptop manufacturing operations. ICT specialises in parts procurement and may source parts from both domestic and global suppliers.
In January, Wistron had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government to establish a laptop manufacturing plant in the state. The company has committed to investing Rs 1,500 crore in the facility with plans to export over 50 percent of the production.
Recently, Wistron acquired a 32-acre land parcel in the Hi-Tech Defence & Aerospace Park in Devanahalli district for Rs 160 crore. The new after-sales service production line is expected to be located near the laptop manufacturing facility.
