Work on the 28 km Khadakwasla to Phursungi tunnel has finally begun after being cleared by the State Level Technical Advisory Committee.

The D-shaped tunnel, which will transport 1,510 cusecs of water by gravity, aims to prevent water leakage, contamination, and evaporation from the Khadakwasla dam. The ?2,190 crore project is expected to save 2.18 TMC of water annually and restore irrigation to 3,471 hectares. With the NOC issued, work is progressing at Wadachi Wadi and Uruli Devachi, including excavation through drill-andblast methods.

The project will replace the damaged Mutha right canal, improving water supply for Pune and surrounding areas. Megha Engineering has been awarded the contract, and the tunnel is expected to be completed within three years.
