Videocon Group is planning to commence work on a Rs 20,000 crore power and steel project at Jamuria in West Bengal by the end of FY14.
The company is proposing to set up a three million tpa integrated steel unit and 1,200 MW coal-based power plant. The project is spread across 4,000 acre of land. Videocon Group has formed a separate JV company with a US partner - Videocon Steel and Power, to implement the project. Both the companies have 51 per cent and 49 per cent stake, respectively.
The project was delayed earlier due to land acquisition issues, non-receipt of necessary approvals, and non-receipt of coal linkages for the project.
Consulting Engineering Services India has been appointed as consultant for the project.
