Work on the second campus of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to come
up in the Atchyuthapuram mandal of Visakhapatnam district is likely to commence
by end-2009.
The Andhra Pradesh Government has allocated 3,000 acre in the Andhra Pradesh
SEZ for the purpose. In Phase I, an amount of Rs 500 crore is likely to be spent
on the campus project. The campus is being set up to take up research on nuclear
energy and also to take-up certain strategic projects.
Meanwhile, BARC has started a small facility in Autonagar at Visakhapatnam
for electro-magnetic systems wherein four groups have started research work at
the facility.
