Epsilon Advance Material, a unit of Epsilon Carbon, will be investing close to Rs 2,000 crore to produce and process manganese, cobalt or nickel cathode by 2025.
The company is thinking of getting into the cathode space as well which will take off in another 12 months or so.
Lithium-ion batteries, which are used in the making of electric vehicles and consumer electronics, require raw materials like graphite anodes, cathode, separators, electrolytes and binders.
Epsilon has already invested close to Rs 200 crore in FY22 to make graphite anodes and have announced investments of Rs 2,000 crore to make around 40,000 tpa of graphite anodes by 2025.
For its new cathode business, the company is currently evaluating the available technologies and looking to make at least 30,00 tonne in the next two-three years.
Epsilon will be setting up the cathode facility in a state with proximity to ports.
