Rajkot District Co-operative Milk Producers Union, a member of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), has commissioned its state-of-the-art milk processing plant in association with National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
The project located in Rajkot, Gujarat, is being run on a trial basis and will become fully operational by July 2014. Once it starts operations, the processing capacity of the company will increase from 3,00,000 ltr per day to 6,00,000 ltr.
The project has been set up with an investment of Rs 100 crore. Of the total expenditure NDDB has provided 82 per cent funds, while the remaining 18 per cent was managed by Rajkot Dairy.
Once the project commences operations, the company intends to gradually dismantle the old unit and open that space for production of ice cream, cheese and other items under Amul and Gopal brand.
In addition to this, Rajkot Dairy is also planning to set up a fully automatic packaging plant in the near future. The company plans to install a chilling centre near Wankaner with an investment of Rs 10 crore, which will have a storage capacity of 1,00,000 ltr. NDDB will fund Rs 5.50 crore for this project with the Dairy managing the remaining fund.
