Tata Communications is planning to invest more than $200 million (Rs 1,200 crore) to double its data centre capacity in India. The company plans to increase its data centre capacity from five lakh sq ft to ten lakh sq ft over a period of three years.
Tata Communications owns an undersea cable network and provides wholesale communication and data centre services to corporates. The company has data centres at 44 locations globally. The 44th data centre was opened at Greater Kailash in New Delhi. It also has data centres in Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Pune and plans to open two more data centres in the coming years.
Data growth in the country is being fuelled by the adoption of smartphones, cloud, big data analytics, 4G technology and trends such as ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) and social networking.
