General Motors (India) has planned to double the
production capacity of its Halol plant in Gujarat from 25,000 cars per year to
over 50,000 per year. The investment envisaged is around Rs.180 crore.
The expanded plant is likely to begin operations
by February 2005. With this, the total investment of the US car major in India
would touch Rs.1,380 crore.
Meanwhile, passenger car sales by GMI in the
first half of the current fiscal year stood at 13,126 units.
