Finnish mobile handset leader, Nokia, has planned
to set up a manufacturing base in India, according to Mr Pekka Ala Pietila,
President, Nokia Corporation.
The plan will involve investment of $150 million
(Rs.675 crore) over the next four years. The unit is expected to employ around
2,000 persons.
The company is likely to finalize the site for
the manufacturing unit in the first quarter of 2005. The first handset will be
rolled out by end of 2005 or early 2006.
The proposed Indian facility will be Nokia's
tenth in the world.
