Honda Motor Co has announced that it would start
producing and selling the new Civic in India by 2006. It would increase
its overall production capacity to 1 lakh cars per year by 2010 from the current
level of 30,000 cars per year. The investment envisaged is around Rs.650 crore.
The investment plan also involves raising the
capacity of its Greater Noida plant to 50,000 cars per year, by end-2005.
Honda Siel, the marketing subsidiary of Honda
Motors, currently sells three models in the market - the City, the Accord, and
the CR-V, a sports utility vehicle.
