Man Force Trucks -- a 70:30 joint
venture between Force Motors and the European Man Group -- is likely to begin
operations at its new unit by end-April 2006.
The new plant, coming up at Pithampur
in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, will be inaugurated on 30 April 2006,
according to unconfirmed reports. Production will begin soon thereafter. The
unit will produce trucks in the range of 16-20 tonnes, to begin with. The
production range would be extended to cover special vehicles like long-haul
trucks, tippers, tractor trailers and multi-axle vehicles. The overall capacity
of the unit would be 24,000 units per year.
The Pithampur unit is being shaped as
an export-oriented unit targeting Asian and African countries. The company is
eventually targeting at least 50 per cent of its production for exports.
Force Motors (formerly Bajaj Tempo)
had announced the joint venture project in mid-December 2005. The project will
see investment of Rs.500 crore, spread over three years.
