1. Boolean Searches :

i. AND - Shows results where both terms on either side of the 'AND' operator are present. 'AND' must be in upper case. For example search term - delhi AND metro result - It will return records in which 'delhi' as well as 'metro' both are present.

ii. OR - Shows results where either term (or both terms) is present. 'OR' must be in upper case. For example search term - delhi OR metro result - It will return records in which either 'delhi' or 'metro' or both are present

2. Proximity Searches

A proximity search looks for terms that are within a specific distance from one another. For example, search term - 'delhi metro'~10 result - It will search for records where 'delhi' and 'metro' are found within 10 words of each other

3. Phrase searches

You can search phrases using double quotes. for e.g. 'delhi metro' result - It will return records where 'delhi metro' phrase is found.

NHPC to add over 10,000 MW by 2012

National Hydroelectric Power Corporation has planned to add over 10,000 MW during the X and XI Plan periods. Here is a brief outline of the expansion plan.

Capacity Addition

  • In the X Plan (2002-07), capacity addition of 2,480 MW has been envisaged out of which 1,580 MW has been commissioned so far.
  • In the XI Plan (2007-12), capacity addition of 7,700 MW has been envisaged. Out of this, 520 MW will be added through NHDC Ltd (a joint venture subsidiary of NHPC operating in Madhya Pradesh)
  • Beyond the XI Plan period, capacity addition of 22,000 MW has been targeted.

Projects under active implementation

  • Teesta - Stage V (520 MW, Sikkim)
  • Teesta Low Dam - Stage III (132 MW, West Bengal)
  • Teesta Low Dam - Stage IV (160 MW, West Bengal)
  • Prabati - Stage II (520 MW, Himachal Pradesh)
  • Chamera - Stage III (231 MW, Himachal Pradesh)
  • Lower Subansiri (2,000 MW, Arunachal Pradesh)
  • Uri - Stage II (240 MW, Jammu & Kashmir)
  • Omkareshwar (520 MW, Madhya Pradesh, NHDC Ltd)

Project Financing

The fund requirement till 2012 has been estimated at Rs.62,000 crore. Budgetary support would be Rs.24,000 crore while Rs.7,000 crore would come from internal accruals. The remainder would be raised through domestic and foreign debt.

Current Capacity

The current capacity of NHPC stands at 3,755 MW which includes 2,755 MW of nine hydropower projects owned by NHPC and 1,000 MW of the Indira Sagar project in Madhya Pradesh owned by NHDC Ltd.
