Mumbai Port Trust has received 12 EOIs
for development of its proposed cruise terminal in Mumbai. The project will
entail an investment of Rs.168 crore.
The MPT
is currently evaluating the bids and will finalise the contract shortly, most of
the companies being Europe-based.
The scope of work also involves
setting up of convention centers, shopping arcades, car parks and other
tourist-friendly features in the area. The proposed terminal will be built one
kilometre into the sea and the berth will be 200x50m in size. Two cruise vessels
will be able to dock in the terminal, that will be dredged up to 10.5m.
Work on
the project is likely to commence by December 2006 with completion scheduled for
2009.
