Inorder to carry out feasibility study
of a deep-draught port in West Bengal the state government is scouting for a
consultant.
The government has invited expressions
of interest (EoI) for appointing consultant who will carry out a detailed
study to identify a suitable location for a new deep-draught port in West
Bengal. The appointment is expected to be finalised soon.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Port is also
developing dry dock to cater to the diverse repair and maintenance needs of the
vessels calling on the eastern ports of India. There are five dry docks of which
three are in Kidderpore Dock and two are in Netaji Subhash Dock.
The dry dock system has a full-fledged
repair workshop including diesel engine overhauling unit, structural shop, heavy
and light machine shop, forging shop, electrical shop and a chain testing-repair
shop with 2500 KN capacity.
